FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Can I talk to you about my student’s situation and particular needs?
Definitely. I welcome background information about students’ learning styles, previous tutoring experiences, motivation, test anxiety levels, etc.
To that end, I offer an initial 20-minute complimentary consultation to potential clients. If we agree that your student and I would be a good fit, we can get started.
When and how often do you meet with students?
I am available most weekdays year-round, between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. and many weekends. The frequency of sessions depends on you. For some students, 1 or 2 sessions are just right. For others, a longer-term series of lessons makes more sense. Sessions are on an as-needed basis.
How long is a session?
Sessions may be 1, 1 ½, or 2 hours.
Do you meet in person or remotely?
Both. In fact, it may make sense for a student to meet remotely sometimes and in person sometimes. Read more about remote sessions for in-person meetings.
How does scheduling work?
I try to be flexible. My schedule changes from one week to the next, and I recognize that student and family schedules do as well. Often, at the end of each session, we arrange the next one. If you prepay for at least 6 hours of tutoring, we can schedule all the sessions in advance.
What is the cost?
Hourly rates vary depending on the type of tutoring and the amount of prep time required. Discounts are available for prepaid packages of 6 or more hours.
What is your payment policy?
I accept cash or checks made out to Stuhr Education, or you can use Zelle or Venmo. Full payment is due before the beginning of each lesson.
What happens if I need to cancel a session?
You can cancel a lesson without charge if you notify me by text or email as soon as possible, but at least 24 hours before the scheduled start of the lesson.
How do we communicate about my student’s progress?
Ongoing communication and feedback from you is very important. That can be brief phone calls, texts, or e-mails. You are always welcome to sit in on video chat sessions.
Is there homework?
There can be. Indeed, I encourage it. I am happy to provide review materials and practice exercises and tests. However, I understand that many students have heavy workloads already, and I am not looking to add to their burdens.
I’m interested. What’s the next step?
Email me at Margaret@StuhrEd.com or text me at 847.238.2946. Please tell me the type of tutoring you are interested in and your student’s grade level. If you text me, please also give me an email address where you’d like me to send additional information including pricing and scheduling options.
